Sony Wants To Know Why You’re Hacking Your PSP

Posted in Uncategorized on April 10, 2008 by Tony

The engineers at Sony can’t be too thrilled with fighting the constant battle against PSP hackers, issuing firmware updates that “strengthen security” in a futile attempt to curb piracy and homebrew applications. Going by a recent survey commissioned by Sony Computer Entertainment, passed on to us by a reader who was asked to take part, the company seems to be looking into the reasons why PSP owners are opening up their portables.

Sony reps call the survey a part of “ongoing PSP consumer research”, attempting to learn more about the size of the PSP hacking population and the mentality behind the behavior. Questions like “Do you know of anyone who has “hacked,” or modified, transferred and customized their PSP firmware and software?” were included elsewhere in the poll.

If you ask me i think its just crap that they would even have a survey like this.

OFW 3.95 Released

Posted in PSP News on April 8, 2008 by Tony

Good news, Sony PlayStation Portable owners! It seems that the latest firmware for Sony’s handheld, version 3.95, is almost ready – and with it comes something that we’ve been waiting for: improved PSone control customization AND improved Sony PlayStation 3 connectivity. Awesome!

This comes directly from the US PlayStation Blog, where PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel made a news post about the upcoming firmware. His post, verbatim:

While playing PSone games on your PSP, you can now customize how the buttons are assigned by going to [Controller Settings] > [Assign Buttons] and select [Custom].

You can now quit Remote Play and choose to turn off your PS3 or leave it on after quitting. This is useful if you are performing a download and want to quit Remote Play, but still want your download to continue on the PS3.

Select [Quit and Turn Off the PS3 System] or [Quit Without Turning Off the PS3 System] from [Quit Remote Play] when you press the HOME button on the PSP system.

Pretty neat trick, being able to quit remote play without turning off your PS3. This pretty much leaves your Cell Processor-powered beast to continue downloading media off the PlayStation Network store, or if you simply want to switch to the full console experience. Here’s to more updates like these!

- While playing PSone games on your PSP, you can now customize how the buttons are assigned by going to [Controller Settings] > [Assign Buttons] and select [Custom].

- You can now quit Remote Play and choose to turn off your PS3 or leave it on after quitting.

Again, don’t ask for M33 version.

Posted in PSP CTF Announcements on April 7, 2008 by Tony

I’m sorry for all the members that are going to miss this but i know its only like 5 of you and it takes twice as long to edit the blog when doing it and with no one really using it i don’t feel i need to take that much more time out of my day. Sorry :(
